governor romney is going to win ohio this year. host: both of them have been there numerous times to the president just 15 times this year, 30 times since he has taken office. tell me about ohio. caller: ohio is a class a purple state, well balanced between democrats and republicans, a microcosm of the country in the sense that you have blue caller workers, you have -- however, the state is older, probably more caucasian, a little white r. it has really been hit by the economic downturn, especially heavy industry. both sides think they have a real shot at winning the state. i think in the early going, the obama campaign scored well on their class warfare argument. that is one of the staples of the obama campaign, "you are not doing well because this guy in his career is doing too well." now i think the public is beginning to understand that it is the bad economic policies of this administration that is causing everybody to do less well than they should. so i think now mitt romney and paul ryan are starting to pick up. host: what kind of ground game do you need to pick up ohio? gue

which values. let me tell you about the mitt romney that i know. >> incredible. >> you both saw benjamin netanyahu hold up the picture of a bomb with a red line through it. >> thank heavens we have the sanctions in place, and it is in spite of their opposition. all i have to point to is the results. they are four years closer to a nuclear weapon. look, did they come in and inherit a bad situation? absolutely. we are going in the wrong direction. slower than last year, and that was slower than the year before. august was slower than it was in july. >> the republican national committee is responsible for the content of this advertisement. host: next up on "washington journal," getting your reaction to the debate, back. ohio. your opinion of last night? caller: last night was awesome. i think vice president joe biden did an awesome job. last week when the debate was with the president of the united states, president barack obama and governor mitt romney, mitt romney was very rude. he was rude to the president. he was rude to america. i am one of the 47%. i am 55 years old. i started working

part a home away from home for both the obama and the romney campaigns. they're spending a lot of time here, a lot of money here because of the role that ohio may ultimately play and who wins this election come november 6. last night mitt romney and paul ryan played to a large crowd in lancaster, ohio. there was a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of excitement in the air. and in large part because they believe the republicans believe they've won these first two debates. governor mitt romney had a pretty strong performance out in denver ten days ago. paul ryan had a pretty solid performance two nights ago down in kentucky. but that excitement and energy notwithstanding there's a lot of work left to be done for this ticket here in ohio. the president still shows a lead here in ohio, even though that lead has been chipped into over the last week or two, by about half in some of these polls. putting mitt romney within striking distance of the president. now, he may still, mitt romney may still have a challenge, a hurdle to clear with some undecided voters here. and that's surrounding this auto bai

of the senate if they can get four seats, if romney wins the white house that number drops to three. welcome both. i'm guessing this is the only time you put on suits now. does the winner of the presidential decide control of the state senate? there's no question that it impacts races. we have said from the beginning that we think senate races can stand on their own. >> if mitt romney wins the presidency, what chances do democrats have of retaining control of the united states? >> when you look at the battleground states that you listinged. after of those states are republican held seats. >> can you gain control if president obama wins re-election? >> sure, chuck and here's why, we're win right now in connecticut, we're winning in wisconsin. we got a little separation last week or so. governor romney's strong performance, really the resurgence for the party so we feel like we have a great path to the majority with or without governor romney winning. >> let me start with a virginia. can george allen win without mitt romney carrying the state? >> obviously it would be easier if romney won the

romney specifically embrace simpson-bowles or does he not? he gave us both answers in the last debate. what is your understanding of the governor's approach, he's a presidential candidate, to simpson-bowles? yes or no. >> the governor's approach to simpson-bowles it's a step in the right direction, right. >> but he has his own plan and his own plan would, you know, does not involve some of the components of simpson bowls. as it relates to that, you know, on that issue, he's been pretty clear. he's got his own plan -- >> he hasn't been clear. >> okay. time-out. mitt romney did one thing that everybody acknowledges, even though in his own party, which is pivot further towards the center. paul ryan's budget has been declared by some folks, some analysts, including those in the republican party, to be a fairly strong document win that takes specific stances on the american social compact. do you think paul ryan will be defending mitt romney's moderate position tonight or mitt romney's previously severely conservative position of the campaign trail? >> he'll be presenting people with a har

guests today. we both voted for obama, and if you are going to think this is a funny, but my decision came with the last debate, and the reason was the minutes that mitt romney said that he was not going to cut the 1%-ers, i read all the people, and there is one thing that i have taught my children, my grandchildren, is do not lie. that was a big lie. jerry, when we got together 12 years, he was a republican, i was an independent. each time we vote, we say, we might as well not vote because you are going to cancel my vote out. this is the first time we did not cancel each other's phone app. he came close to not being able to but because he gave up his license a year ago, and he needed to go down and get a florida i.d., and then all the sun, you got a passport. so he was able to vote. i listened to them all. there were some things i liked on both sides, but i decided not to change horses in the middle of the stream. host: the early voting quest was there a line? caller: i floated through the mail. my daughter is here in florida. she just came in on my 80th birthday. she met a man here.
